Seattle will make an early-season quarterback change after Sam Darnold was ruled out with a glute injury.
Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed that Drew Lock will start in Darnold’s place for the Seahawks’ Week 2 matchup with Arizona. The team does not currently expect to place Darnold on injured reserve, suggesting the injury is being treated as a shorter-term issue.
Lock steps into a familiar role. He has starting experience and has spent enough time in Seattle’s system that the offense is not expected to be rebuilt around him for one game. Rookie Jalen Milroe will serve as the other available quarterback while Darnold recovers.
Macdonald said the focus is on keeping the operation steady rather than asking Lock to do something dramatically different. For Seattle, the bigger question is whether the offense can maintain its rhythm without the quarterback who opened the season as the starter.
