Buffalo’s new home gets its first regular-season test Thursday night, and the opponent should make the occasion feel anything but ceremonial.
The Bills will host the Detroit Lions in the first regular-season game at the new Highmark Stadium, with both teams entering the matchup 1-0. Buffalo beat Houston 36-31 in Week 1, while Detroit escaped New Orleans 31-30 in overtime.
The night will carry plenty of firsts. Bills players are set to wear an inaugural-season patch, franchise legend Bruce Smith is scheduled to be honored, and the game will include the stadium’s first regular-season halftime performance.
Once the kickoff arrives, though, the attention shifts quickly to two offenses capable of turning the game into a shootout. Buffalo’s Josh Allen faces a Detroit team built around Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown.
