Israel and Morocco have agreed to upgrade diplomatic relations by opening embassies and appointing ambassadors in both countries.
The agreement was announced after talks between the two countries’ foreign ministers. It marks another step beyond the liaison-office model that followed Morocco’s decision to normalize relations with Israel in 2020 under U.S.-brokered agreements.
Morocco joined the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan in moving toward formal ties with Israel during that period. The relationship has since expanded into trade, tourism and security cooperation, although regional conflicts have periodically complicated public diplomacy.
Opening full embassies would give the relationship a more permanent institutional footing and signal that both governments intend to continue deepening ties despite wider tensions in the Middle East.
