The 2026-27 UEFA Nations League opened with a busy first night across Europe, including a 1-1 draw between the Netherlands and Germany and a five-goal contest in which Norway beat Denmark 3-2.
Defending champions Portugal began their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Wales, while Austria defeated Israel 3-1 in League B.
League A begins with tight margins
The Netherlands-Germany meeting was one of the headline fixtures of the opening round. Neither side was able to turn the match into an early statement win, leaving both with one point in Group A2.
Norway’s 3-2 victory over Denmark provided the highest-scoring League A match of the night. Portugal’s narrower win over Wales gave the defending champions three points in Group A4.
Results beyond the top division
Austria opened with a 3-1 win over Israel, while Kosovo beat the Republic of Ireland 1-0. Malta also defeated Andorra 2-1 as the competition began across its four league levels.
The next round continues with Italy facing Belgium and Türkiye hosting France on September 25, followed by England against Spain on September 26.
