Everton won 2-0 at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Thierno Barry opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Iliman Ndiaye doubled the advantage after halftime, ending Wolves’ run in the competition.
Aston Villa progressed with a 1-0 victory at Coventry City. Evann Guessand scored the decisive goal shortly before halftime, finishing after a quick Villa counterattack.
The two results continued a busy round of League Cup action in which several top-flight clubs faced potentially awkward ties away from home. Everton and Villa avoided the kind of upset that can quickly reshape the competition’s knockout rounds.
Both clubs now move into the last 16 as the tournament narrows and the prospect of meetings between Premier League sides increases. The next draw will determine whether either receives another lower-league opponent or an early heavyweight matchup.
