Los Angeles 2028 organizers have released the first detailed look at the Olympic and Paralympic triathlon courses, placing the races in the Venice Beach zone with a shared transition area and finish line overlooking the Pacific.
LA28 said the Olympic individual races will be held on July 15 and 16, 2028. Athletes will complete a 1,500-meter swim, a 40-kilometer bike leg and a 10-kilometer run, with the course looping through the Venice beachfront area.
Beach start and repeated loops
In the individual Olympic races, athletes are scheduled to start directly from the beach rather than from a pontoon. The swim will be split into two laps, followed by an eight-lap bike course and a four-lap run.
The mixed relay is set for July 20 and will use shorter distances, while the Paralympic triathlon events are scheduled for August 18 and 19. Para athletes will begin the swim from a barge beyond the breakwater before moving into the same central transition zone.
Venice Beach becomes a compact spectator hub
Organizers designed the routes so spectators can see athletes return repeatedly to the transition area during cycling and running segments. The course also includes sections near the Venice sign, the beach path and the Venice Canals.
LA28 said the routes remain subject to operational testing. A World Triathlon T50 event planned for Venice in July 2027 is expected to give athletes and organizers an opportunity to test the setting before the Games.
