President Donald Trump is returning to Texas for the third time in a month as Republicans try to stabilize races that have become unusually competitive ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Trump is scheduled to campaign in San Antonio as the party focuses on a Senate race, several House seats and a governor contest in a state that has long been central to the Republican electoral map.
Texas is no longer being treated as automatic
Reuters reported that Republican strategists are responding to weaker polling and changing support among Hispanic voters, particularly in South Texas. The Senate race has become a major focus of Trump’s travel and political spending.
Texas remains a Republican-leaning state, but close races there would force the party to spend money and candidate time that would otherwise go to traditional battlegrounds.
The visit also illustrates how national issues — inflation, the Middle East conflict and voter concerns about technology and jobs — are reshaping campaigns even in states that were considered relatively safe.
