Sweden will deploy a Patriot air-defense system to Poland to help protect a NATO logistics hub used to move military and civilian support to Ukraine.
The Swedish Armed Forces said the deployment will be the country’s first Patriot mission under NATO and will reinforce the alliance’s eastern flank.
Mission will protect a key supply route
The logistics hub in southeastern Poland supports NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine. Protecting it has become a higher priority as Russia continues long-range attacks and alliance members expand air-defense coverage near NATO’s eastern border.
The Patriot system will be operated by personnel from Sweden’s Air Defence Regiment with support from the Blekinge Air Wing. Sweden has already committed fighter aircraft to a separate NATO mission in Poland.
The deployment is another step in Sweden’s rapid integration into NATO’s operational structure after joining the alliance in 2024.
