Stray Kids will not submit music for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards, according to confirmation from the group’s agency JYP Entertainment.
The decision places the group alongside BTS, which earlier announced that it would also sit out next year’s awards.
New Asian pop category faces criticism
The withdrawals come as the Recording Academy prepares to introduce a new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category covering K-pop, J-pop, C-pop and other Asian-language releases.
The Academy says the category will proceed after consultations with members of the Asian music community. Critics argue that grouping music by regional identity could separate major Asian acts from broader pop categories.
Stray Kids gave no reason
JYP Entertainment confirmed that the group made no submission but did not publicly link the decision to the new category. Any claim about motive therefore remains speculative.
All eight members of Stray Kids were invited to become voting members of the Recording Academy earlier this year. The 69th Grammy Awards are scheduled for February 7, 2027.
