Delos Data, a semiconductor startup founded by former Intel engineers, has raised $100 million to develop networking chips and software aimed at moving information more efficiently inside increasingly complex AI data centers.
AI infrastructure is becoming more heterogeneous as operators combine GPUs, custom accelerators and other processors from multiple vendors. That makes the links between chips increasingly important because expensive computing hardware can sit idle while waiting for data.
Delos says its technology is designed to provide fast, flexible communication regardless of which mix of processors a data-center operator chooses. The company is targeting a part of the AI stack where Nvidia has built a strong position alongside its dominant accelerator business.
The funding round included Matrix Partners, Playground and other investors. Former Intel chief Pat Gelsinger, now a partner at Playground, said inefficient data movement can waste both electricity and computing capacity.
