Asia is on course for its weakest September of liquefied natural gas imports since 2018 as high spot prices discourage buyers in China and South Asia.
Commodity data cited by Reuters shows that lower Asian demand is freeing up more LNG cargoes for Europe, where buyers are trying to rebuild storage ahead of winter. The market remains tight because Qatari exports have been heavily constrained by conflict around the Strait of Hormuz.
The shift is another sign of how quickly global gas flows can change when regional prices diverge, with Europe currently willing to pay more for supply security.
