Germany announced more than €1.3 billion in new support for Ukraine during Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to Kyiv on Sunday.
The package includes about €1 billion in military assistance and €350 million for energy infrastructure ahead of winter, according to the Associated Press.
Long-range weapons and drones included
The military component includes long-range systems, combat drones and satellite technology. Germany also plans to finance Ukrainian drone production aimed at countering Russia’s growing use of jet-powered unmanned aircraft.
Merz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also signed a series of agreements covering security cooperation and weapons production.
Energy security remains a priority
Ukraine’s electricity and heating infrastructure has been repeatedly damaged by Russian attacks. The energy funding is intended to strengthen resilience before winter demand increases.
Germany remains one of Ukraine’s largest bilateral supporters. Russia says Western arms deliveries prolong the war, while European governments argue the aid is necessary for Ukraine’s defense.
