Viatris to Buy Pacira BioSciences for $1.65 Billion in Non-Opioid Pain Bet

Viatris agreed to acquire Pacira BioSciences for $1.65 billion, expanding its portfolio of non-opioid pain treatments.

Viatris has agreed to acquire Pacira BioSciences for $1.65 billion in cash, adding two established non-opioid pain treatments to its portfolio.

The offer values Pacira at $36.50 per share, a substantial premium to its previous closing price.

Non-opioid pain management is the strategic focus

Pacira’s Exparel is used for post-surgical pain, while Zilretta treats osteoarthritis-related knee pain.

Viatris expects the transaction to strengthen its position in pain management and complement other products in development.

The deal is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory and shareholder conditions.
