International Energy Agency member countries agreed to accelerate the release of strategic oil reserves as Middle East disruptions continue to pressure crude and diesel markets.
The move is intended to improve near-term supply and reduce the risk of severe shortages as Brent crude trades around the $100-a-barrel level.
Diesel supply is a major concern
War-related disruptions in the Middle East and Ukraine have tightened refined-product markets, making diesel availability a particular concern for governments.
Emergency reserve releases can temporarily increase supply, but they do not remove the underlying geopolitical risks affecting shipping routes and production.
Markets responded positively to the announcement, with oil prices easing from intraday highs and equity losses narrowing.
