Wall Street Opens Higher as Oil Falls, While Telecom Stocks Slide on SpaceX Spectrum Deal

U.S. stocks opened higher as oil prices eased, but telecom shares fell after a SpaceX spectrum acquisition raised competitive concerns.

Wall Street’s main indexes opened higher Friday as oil prices retreated and investors took some relief from easing Middle East supply concerns.

The S&P 500, Nasdaq and Dow all moved higher at the open.

Telecom shares move the other way

Telecommunications stocks came under pressure after a SpaceX spectrum acquisition raised concerns about new competition in wireless connectivity.

The move highlights how satellite-to-phone services are becoming a more significant competitive threat to traditional carriers.

Investors are also preparing for next week’s U.S. bank earnings and inflation data.
