Samsung Electronics and several Samsung affiliates have committed a combined $1 billion to Helix Digital, a U.S.-based artificial-intelligence infrastructure company backed by KKR.
Samsung Electronics will invest $500 million directly, while Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance will contribute the remaining $500 million.
AI infrastructure spending keeps expanding
The investment highlights how the AI boom is spreading beyond chipmakers and cloud providers into power systems, batteries, construction, data-center equipment and financing.
Helix Digital is positioning itself as a developer of large-scale AI and digital infrastructure. Samsung’s broad participation could create opportunities across semiconductors, energy storage, engineering and enterprise technology.
Samsung deepens its exposure to the AI buildout
Samsung already plays a major role in memory chips, displays, batteries and data-center components. The Helix investment adds another route for the group to participate in the capital-intensive expansion of AI computing capacity.
Investors are increasingly focused on whether infrastructure spending can continue at its current pace as borrowing costs rise globally. Even so, major technology and industrial groups continue to commit large amounts of capital to AI capacity.
