The NFL’s Week 2 early window delivered a little bit of everything on Sunday: a late comeback in Nashville, a defensive statement in Foxborough, a one-sided NFC South result in Atlanta and another efficient win from Cincinnati.
Eagles steal it late in Tennessee
Philadelphia improved to 2-0 with a 24-20 win over the Tennessee Titans, but the result was anything but comfortable. The Eagles trailed 20-17 in the final minute before Jalen Hurts led the decisive drive, finding Darius Cooper for the go-ahead touchdown with 14 seconds left.
Hurts finished 26-of-37 for 264 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. DeVonta Smith was his most reliable target, catching 10 passes for 117 yards and a score. Tennessee quarterback Cam Ward was efficient through the air and also ran for a touchdown, but the Titans could not close the game after taking a late lead.
Patriots defense overwhelms Pittsburgh
New England earned its first win of the season with a 20-3 victory over the Steelers at Gillette Stadium. Pittsburgh managed just 235 total yards and never reached the end zone.
The game turned decisively in the fourth quarter when Christian Barmore forced an Aaron Rodgers fumble that was recovered by Efton Ponder for a defensive touchdown. Rodgers finished with 187 passing yards and an interception as the Steelers’ offense struggled to create explosive plays.
For New England, Drake Maye threw for 208 yards while TreVeyon Henderson supplied the biggest offensive play of the afternoon with a 39-yard rushing touchdown.
Panthers dominate Falcons in Atlanta
Carolina produced the most convincing result of the early slate, beating Atlanta 34-3. Bryce Young threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns without an interception, while the Panthers’ defense forced five turnovers.
The Falcons never found offensive rhythm. Carolina led 20-3 at halftime and pulled away after the break, including a pick-six by rookie linebacker Deontae Lawson. The win moved the Panthers to 1-1 after a high-scoring loss in Week 1, while Atlanta fell to 0-2.
Bengals stay unbeaten
Cincinnati also moved to 2-0 with a 20-6 road win over Houston. Joe Burrow threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns, both to Ja’Marr Chase. Chase finished with seven catches for 75 yards, while Tee Higgins added 95 receiving yards.
Houston moved the ball between the 20s but repeatedly failed to turn drives into touchdowns. C.J. Stroud threw for 353 yards, yet the Texans scored only six points and dropped to 0-2.
What the early games changed
Philadelphia and Cincinnati both left Sunday unbeaten, but in very different ways. The Eagles needed a final-minute response to survive, while the Bengals leaned on red-zone execution and defense. New England and Carolina, meanwhile, picked up their first wins with performances that looked much more complete than their season openers.
The late Sunday window and prime-time game still have plenty to add to the Week 2 picture, but the early slate already produced several results that could matter when division races begin to tighten later in the season.
