Alpine has appointed former Mercedes technical leader Mike Elliott as chief technical officer, adding an experienced Formula One engineer as the Renault-owned team continues to rebuild its technical organization.
The team confirmed the appointment on Thursday, with Reuters reporting that Elliott will take a senior role overseeing engineering direction. He previously held several high-level positions at Mercedes during the team’s dominant period.
Technical leadership remains central to Alpine’s reset
Modern Formula One teams rely on large engineering organizations covering aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, simulation and power-unit integration. A chief technical officer helps coordinate those groups and translate development priorities into a competitive car.
Alpine has gone through repeated management and technical changes in recent seasons. Hiring Elliott gives the team another senior figure with experience working inside a championship-winning structure.
The impact will not be immediate. Formula One development cycles stretch across months, and major design choices for future cars are often made well before a new executive arrives. Elliott’s influence is therefore more likely to be judged over multiple seasons than the next few races.
