Meta Platforms has recruited MongoDB chief executive Chirantan “CJ” Desai to lead a new enterprise platform organization focused on turning Meta’s artificial-intelligence products into tools for business customers.
Desai will join Meta as chief enterprise platform officer and report directly to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. His departure from MongoDB came less than a year after he took the top job there and triggered a sharp selloff in MongoDB shares.
Meta wants a larger role in enterprise AI
The new role will focus on packaging Meta’s AI models and agent tools for corporate use. Meta has been expanding products such as Muse, Meta Business Agent and coding tools as it looks beyond consumer applications and advertising.
Enterprise AI has become a major battleground as companies seek systems that can be deployed securely across customer service, software development, sales and internal workflows.
MongoDB brings back former CEO on an interim basis
MongoDB said former chief executive Dev Ittycheria will return as interim CEO while the database company searches for a permanent replacement. Investors reacted negatively to the abrupt transition, pushing the stock sharply lower.
