Bijan Robinson broke open Monday night’s NFC South matchup almost immediately, and the Atlanta Falcons never gave the New Orleans Saints a realistic path back into the game.
Robinson rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns as Atlanta won 45-24 at the Superdome. His 59-yard touchdown run on the Falcons’ third offensive play set the tone for a night in which Atlanta controlled the ground game and repeatedly punished New Orleans’ defense.
Atlanta built the lead early
Brian Robinson Jr. added three rushing touchdowns and 62 yards, while quarterback Michael Penix Jr. completed 15 of 20 passes for 223 yards. Penix also connected with Jahan Dotson for a 31-yard touchdown.
The Falcons led 24-7 at halftime and answered each attempt by New Orleans to narrow the margin. Atlanta’s defense held the Saints to 50 rushing yards, forcing quarterback Tyler Shough to throw 48 times.
Saints’ anniversary night turns flat
The game was played as New Orleans marked the 20th anniversary of the Saints’ first Superdome game after Hurricane Katrina, a 23-3 win over Atlanta in 2006. This time, the Falcons quickly took the crowd out of the contest.
Alvin Kamara scored twice on the ground for New Orleans, while Shough finished with 286 passing yards and a late touchdown. Atlanta improved to 2-2 and has now posted consecutive convincing road victories.
The Saints fell to 1-3 after their second straight defeat.
