CBS Sports and Tony Romo Part Ways After Nine Seasons

CBS Sports and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo mutually agreed to end their nine-season broadcasting partnership.

CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways, ending a nine-season run in which the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback became one of the network’s lead NFL analysts.

CBS said J.J. Watt will remain alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on its top NFL broadcast team for the rest of the season.

Romo had been on leave

The separation comes after Romo was placed on leave following a July arrest in Wisconsin for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He later pleaded no contest to the charge in September.

Romo said he plans to step away from work for a period and focus on his health and family before deciding on his next professional move.

A high-profile broadcast tenure ends

Romo joined CBS in 2017 immediately after retiring from the NFL. His early broadcasts drew attention for his ability to anticipate offensive play calls and explain quarterback decisions in real time.

His departure changes one of the most prominent NFL broadcast teams in U.S. television. CBS has not announced a long-term replacement beyond Watt’s role for the remainder of the current season.
